Efinrin Obuniru – Iwulo Ewe Efinrin Obuniru
Efinrin Obuniru is not just another variety of Efinrin (Scent Leaf). Just like Efinrin Wewe, Obuniru is also found in the kitchen (mostly for pepper soup) and prescribed for specific conditions within Yoruba herbal practice.
Its importance lies not in popularity but in its targeted role in traditional medicine.

Iwulo Efinrin Obuniru – Traditional Uses and Benefits
Yoruba people often turn to Efinrin Obuniru when treating typhoid fever, combining it with other forms of Efinrin — including Wewe, Nla, and Oso.
They also add Ìsẹ̀ta, a traditional remedy that looks like dried animal skin and is sold by elewe ọmọ (herb sellers).
The final mixture is used in two ways: consumed as a herbal drink and used to steam the patient’s body.
Step 1 – Gather Ingredients
1. Efinrin Wẹ́wẹ́ leaves
2. Efinrin Oṣó leaves
3. Efinrin Ọ̀bùnirú leaves
4. Efinrin Nlá (Efinrin Igbó) leaves
5. Ìsẹ̀ta
6. Water
Step 2 – Arrange the Herbs in Pot
1. Place Ìsẹ̀ta at the bottom of the pot.
2. Add all the Efinrin varieties (Wewe, Oso, Obuniru, and Nla) on top.
Step 3 – Boil the Mixture
1. Add enough water to cover the herbs.
2. Boil for 10–15 minutes until the water turns greenish and aromatic (herbal scent).
Step 4 – Separate for Drinking
Pour out a part of the herb into a cup and allow it to cool before drinking.
Step 5 – Prepare for Steam Therapy
1. Transfer the rest of the herbal mixture into a large bowl.
2. Sit comfortably and cover your whole body with a thick cloth or bedsheet, allowing the steam to soak into the skin.
Step 6 – Repeat as Needed
This process is often repeated once or twice daily depending on severity, under the guidance of an experienced herbal expert.
