A Knowledge Platform for Yoruba Herbal Wisdom
For generations, Yoruba families relied on leaves (ewe), roots (egbo), bark, and other natural materials to support health.
Long before hospitals became common, people used the plants around them as part of everyday life.
Some of that knowledge still exists today.
But much of it is slowly disappearing.
Tewe Tegbo exists to document and preserve that knowledge.
We study, record, and explain Yoruba herbal traditions so they are not lost to time.

What Tewe Tegbo Is
Tewe Tegbo is:
- A digital archive of Yoruba herbal knowledge
- An educational platform explaining how herbs were traditionally used
- A bridge between indigenous knowledge and modern understanding
Our goal is simple:
Preserve knowledge. Explain it clearly. Make it accessible.
Why We Document This Knowledge
Traditional medicine and modern medicine both exist in society.
Many families still explore natural support and lifestyle changes before making major medical decisions.
Understanding the traditional herbs people historically used helps people:
- appreciate indigenous knowledge
- identify useful plants around them
- learn how herbs were prepared in traditional settings
- understand why a particular leave, root, etc are used in certain herbal preparation
Tewe Tegbo documents these traditions for learning and cultural preservation.

The Story Behind Tewe Tegbo
My interest in herbal knowledge started during a difficult time.
In 2016, I visited a hospital in Yemetu, Ibadan.
Just getting the hospital card cost ₦5,000.
As a student, that was already a lot.
After several visits and tests, the medical recommendation eventually moved toward surgery.
At that time, I could barely afford food, let alone a major medical procedure.
That experience pushed me to start asking questions.
I began speaking with elders who still understood traditional herbs.
I listened to their explanations.
I started learning about the plants that grow around us, the leaves (ewe) and roots (egbo) many people overlook today.
That curiosity eventually became Tewe Tegbo.
What began as personal learning turned into a mission to document Yoruba herbal knowledge before it disappears.
